Patriarch Porfirije urged the faithful to follow the example of the Most Holy Theotokos and accept God’s will with faith even when it is beyond human understanding.

On August 28, the feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, Serbian Patriarch Porfirije celebrated the Liturgy at Rakovica Monastery and delivered a sermon on trusting in God. This was reported by the official website of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The Primate of the Serbian Church noted that the Mother of God showed an example of perfect faith when She accepted the word addressed to Her by God and replied: “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.” According to the Patriarch, this readiness to accept God’s will completely should serve as a guide for every Christian.

Patriarch Porfirije stressed that the words “Thy will be done” express the essence of a person’s relationship with God. “The whole mystery lies in this: whether we will hear the word of God <…> and say once and for all, ‘Thy will be done,’” he said.

The Primate also reminded Christians that they can turn to the Most Holy Theotokos in prayer and with trust. According to him, She hears the faithful, remains with them, and prays for them to Her Son and God.

As the UOJ previously reported, the Serbian Patriarch denied rumors about the creation of an eparchy in Montenegro.
