Zaporizhzhia City Council hands seized UOC church to OCU
In Zaporizhzhia, the City Council has handed over to the OCU a hospital church taken from the UOC. City authorities gave representatives of Dumenko’s structure the 136-square-meter parish premises for a symbolic rent of one hryvnia. This was reported by ZaBor.
The church is located on the grounds of the former City Hospital No. 10 at 25 Shevchenko Boulevard. The building is currently on the balance sheet of the City Emergency and Urgent Care Hospital. City Council deputies allocated the premises to the OCU without holding an auction.
Since 2006, the building had been used by a community of the UOC Zaporizhzhia Eparchy. Parishioners of the canonical Church prayed within its walls for nearly 20 years. However, in 2023, City Council deputies voted to terminate relations between the Zaporizhzhia City Territorial Community and the UOC. The decision provided for the termination of municipal property lease agreements with parishes of the UOC Zaporizhzhia Eparchy.
As the UOJ reported, the Zaporizhzhia authorities previously announced plans to demolish a UOC hospital church.
