First monastic tonsure performed at Vinnytsia Elijah Monastery
In Vinnytsia, a monastic of the community received monasticism with the name Lavrentiy (Lawrence) in honor of St. Lavrentiy of Chernihiv.
On August 23, 2026, the first monastic tonsure since the founding of the community was performed at the St. Elijah Monastery in Vinnytsia, reports the press service of the Vinnytsia Eparchy.
The tonsure was performed by Metropolitan Varsonofiy of Vinnytsia and Bar. The monastic tonsure was received by a monastic of the monastery, who was given the name Lavrentiy in honor of St. Lavrentiy of Chernihiv.
The rite took place in the lower church of the monastery, dedicated to Hieromartyr Innocent of Vinnytsia. The brethren of the monastery and clergy of the Vinnytsia and other eparchies prayed at the service.
After the tonsure, Metropolitan Varsonofiy addressed monk Lavrentiy with words of guidance and wished him God's help in monastic life. The diocese noted that the first tonsure was a significant event for the St. Elijah Monastery, which was founded in 2021.
