Metropolitan Onuphry chairs KDAiS Academic Council ahead of new school year
The council approved scholarships, faculty appointments, and preparations for a conference marking the 430th anniversary of St. Peter Mohyla’s birth.
His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, chaired a meeting of the Academic Council of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, at which he offered guidance to the faculty ahead of the new academic year and approved named scholarships for the top postgraduate students, the KDAiS press service reports.
The rector of the theological schools, Archbishop Sylvester of Bilohorodka, informed those present about changes to the curriculum and a new distribution of lectures. The administration appointed Academic Secretary Archimandrite Mitrofan (Bozhko) as the academy’s new head of postgraduate studies. The council also approved class mentors for the new academic year and awarded named scholarships from the Primate of the UOC, the Synodal Education Committee, and Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan).
Vice-Rector for Academic and Theological Affairs Volodymyr Bureha presented a plan for preparations for an international academic and practical conference marking the 430th anniversary of the birth of St. Peter Mohyla. During the meeting, the rector also presented new textbooks on English, liturgical theology, and the history of the Local Orthodox Churches.
At the conclusion of the meeting, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry addressed the faculty with archpastoral guidance.
“The task before theological schools always remains unchanged – to educate future pastors and clergy,” the Primate emphasized.
“In this process, it is important to teach the young people who come to us for theological education not only history, dogmatics, and theological disciplines, but also to teach them to live according to the sacred Divine laws.”
As the UOJ previously reported, KDAiS recently announced the number of students admitted for the new academic year.
