Met. Clement serves memorial service for murdered Sviatohirsk Lavra monk
In Kyiv, the head of the UOC Information and Education Department led a memorial litia for Monk Varsonofiy.
On August 24, 2026, Metropolitan Clement of Nizhyn and Pryluky led a memorial litia for the newly departed resident of Sviatohirsk Lavra, Monk Varsonofiy (Turianskyi), at the academic Church of St. John of Damascus at the Protection Monastery in Kyiv, the KDAiS press service reports.
Metropolitan Clement, who heads the Education Committee under the Holy Synod of the UOC, was joined in the service by faculty members and students of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary who are in holy orders. Faculty, students, and pupils of the Kyiv theological schools, parishioners of the academic church, and pilgrims of the Protection Monastery also prayed at the litia.
During the service, prayers were offered for the repose of the soul of Monk Varsonofiy, who was killed on August 23, 2026, in an attack on residents of Sviatohirsk Lavra.
As the UOJ reported, a monk was brutally murdered and two other residents were wounded at Sviatohirsk Lavra.
